We decided to stay in Ollantaytambo as a base for our day trip to Machu Picchu. We arrived in the afternoon and went up to see some of the ruins that are here. We went late in the afternoon so it was peak tourist time. Nevertheless, it was amazing to see and walk through. The following day we caught an early train to Machu Picchu via Aguas Calientes. I would prefer to stay in Ollantaytambo over Aguas Calientes. Before we left Ollantaytambo, we went on a morning hike up a different hill. We went really early so it was peaceful and a nice opportunity to farewell this little village. Breakfast, and then we hailed a driver to take us back to Cusco ($5NZ pp).
